Over the past year, My Coffee Cup has noticed that the quality of Rwanda's coffee is setting a new standard in East Africa. When our green coffee supplier told us about an organic farm available, we were thrilled to hear that the farm is run by women!

The project “The Women's Coffee Extension“ provides women farmers with new economic opportunities and social change. Many of the women who participate in the project are widows or orphans of the 1994 genocide and had to support their families alone.

By purchasing this product you support the project “The Women's Coffee Extension“ and with your help we can continue to buy larger quantities of the products from the farmers in Rwanda and thus contribute to the social and humanitarian development of this farm.

In December 2023, our coffee expert Maxwell Martinelli traveled to Colombia to learn more about coffee growing countries. During this time, he met directly with resource centers, exporters and coffee farmers. Along the way, many relationships were established and projects presented. One of them is Urbania Coffee's peace project in Medellin. The owners and operators are German-born Carl Kramer and local Ricardo Restrepo. Urbania takes a humanitarian approach to coffee by investing in smaller growing communities.

The purchase of this coffee supports farmers in the communities of Chaparral and Planadas. Until recently, this area was occupied by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). The rebel group's influence made it difficult for producers to work in the area, but finally, after a peace agreement was reached, the coffee farmers and their families were able to return to the area and grow coffee again.

They now grow traditional coffee varieties, although many of them have also switched to organic farming.
